Stephanie Fuemmehler cleans monuments at the showroom she and her husband opened in Columbia in mid-May

In 1931 over in Glasgow, a Missouri River town in Howard County, Scott Fuemmehler’s grandpa opened a funeral home and a monument-making. Scott and his wife, Stephanie, took over the third-generation family business in 1991.

Stephanie says they kept getting people from Columbia asking about their monuments, and the closest showrooms were in Glasgow and Marshall. So they started looking for a location for a showroom in Columbia, and recently settled on a building on I-70 Drive SW near the Days Inn Hotel. The Audsley Monument showroom opened in mid-May and features granite monuments, benches, grass markers and flower vases.

“One of our most unique products is our benches,” Scott said. “Central Methodist University has bought a lot of these as memorial benches around campus.” All of the etching and stone work is done at their shop in Glasgow. (To check it out, call 573-447-4009.)
