From the looks of my description, I’d wonder “What’s this guy about?” I’d also think “How is this guy an expert in all those fields?”
To clear the last question up—In short, I’m not. Do I know more about my industries than the average person? I think so, purely through osmosis. But, in my companies, I’m certainly not the expert on almost anything (other than the art of mid-morning high-fiving). I happily defer to our Chief Creative Officer, Chief Production Officer, or Susanne, our office manager, who speaks five languages and is quite literally the smartest person in our organization(s).
At heart I’m an entrepreneur, an inventor, and a person who really likes to tinker with ideas. I was that guy in high school who started the school’s first newspaper. I was the guy in college who got irritated with the school administration and founded a student rights group. I was the guy who last year was sitting in a company meeting about commercial production and asked the question, “so why don’t we make movies?”
I love trying to fit the puzzle pieces together before anyone else realizes there is even a puzzle to solve. I love to hear ideas, ask questions, and then forecast potential successes or potential pitfalls.
Through this strange maze of puzzle-solving, I find myself at the intersection of a pretty interesting portfolio of companies.
Pure Marketing and Media is an advertising agency, with clients on both coasts (and in the “middle”).
Arable Entertainment is an audio/video/film production company, producing everything from 30 second ads and corporate cinematic profiles, to music videos and feature films.
Insight is a research firm, with the “typical” services (phone polling, focus groups, etc…) and a couple really unique products (possibly more to come on the development of those).
Event Solutions is an event production and event marketing firm, providing event production ranging in budget from $5k-$650k.
Verity Interactive is a soon to be internet marketing company (you get the sneak peak), providing everything from web design and programming, to online advertising and new media strategies.
And I’ve got a few more we’re working on…all told, I think there are 26 of us working between the companies and god willing, hopefully we continue to grow.
So why did I decide to start blogging? I’m curious. I’m curious about the power of social media. I’m curious about the exchange of ideas, personalities, and opinions. For this blog, the objective is pretty simple—share bits and pieces of my world and see if that makes an impact. If something I write strikes your fancy, feel free to send me a note, or leave feedback.
