Driving in to work this morning, I saw something that made me smile. Looking out over the hillside, I saw the morning sun shining through a valley of trees. A delicate early morning fog was beginning to lift. It was striking. It looked like something Hallmark would put on a greeting card. Right here in Boone County.
When was the last time you noticed something that made you stop and smile? Something simple. A gift.
A little reminder that life really is about more than just unemployment ratios, stock market prices, bailout packages, and crime prevention task forces. Lift your eyes and look around you.
Last night at the Boone County Fair, I spotted another little gift. It was the young son of a friend, riding the “low-risk” roller coaster with my daughter. I looked at this young man’s face and saw a million-dollar smile. Complete with dimples. Something little. Something beautiful. But I noticed.
I dare you to notice something beautiful today. I challenge you to find something that makes you stop and smile. Warning: These moments are not ostentatious. They won’t hit you over the head, and there’s no neon lights attached. To find them, you have to pay attention. You have to want to notice something other than the obvious.
And if you do find something, share it with me.
Dave Ramsey was right. The only stimulus package you need is sitting on your shoulders.
