And I, I Took the One Less Traveled By…

Twice in the past year I’ve had an epiphany about the need to get back into good physical shape.  Yes, that’s right…I have to have two epiphanies to get it through my thick skull.  The first happened while holding up a shirt in front of a mirror at Macy’s during the Christmas season.  My first thought was, “Hey, who’s that guy in the mirror?”  The second time came about 2 months ago when I saw a family photo taken a few days earlier.  I couldn’t believe the shape I was in – too bad that shape was ROUND!

Since then I have lost approximately 15 pounds.  Just over a week ago I began jogging in the morning before work. Well, technically I do more walking than jogging, but I am steadily changing that ratio each day.  After my first day of running, I noticed this incredible sensation as I was unlocking my front door.  My body was tingling, my legs were a bit wobbly, and my heart was thumping.  You might think I was about to pass out, but it was actually a feeling of success!  I had actually gotten up at 5:15am and hit the streets for a half hour walk/run.  While showering, it occurred to me that this feeling of success was just like when I reach an agreement with a new client.  I get the same exact feeling, without the sweating, huffing, and puffing, of course.

The rest of the day went exceedingly well, and I quickly realized that it was because I started the day out on a successful path.  The past couple of weeks have been incredibly enjoyable for me because I have been putting myself in the path of success far more often.  The next step is figuring out how does one translate this principle into making sales?  For me, it means having the right mind set, doing things in the appropriate order, properly qualifying the prospect, creating a customized offer based on their needs/desires, and asking for the business.

Just like it takes time to get your legs under you when you begin jogging, the same holds true for sales.  It may seem like your not making much progress, but then you look up and realize you’re actually running and having a great time.  Also, as in jogging, taking the same path every single time can quickly get boring.  Find new routes to lead you to success.  What avenues haven’t you explored? What routes have you neglected? Seriously, the more time you can spend feeling the euphoria of success, the more motivated you’ll become to stay enveloped in it!  Let me know when you find your path
