I’ve read more than my share of motivational books, sales & marketing books, business books, inspirational books, etc. My first was by Zig Ziglar, and my current favorites come from Simple Truths. This morning, as I was checking my Facebook account before work, one of my friends, Ann Marie Quertermous from Word Marketing posted a quote from Michelangelo, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” (I believe this is in reference to the famous marble statue “David” created by Mr. di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Bet you didn’t know his last name, did you?)
Ann Marie added the following comment to her post, “Vision followed by consistent action can change the world.” This set my thoughts into motion and helped crystallize something I had recently read from Mac Anderson of Simple Truths. To paraphrase Mr. Anderson, he posited that if one sets consistent goals that are attainable, ones motivation level stays high and achieving the goal is very likely to occur.
Upon reflection, it occurred to me that almost all of my successes have been accomplished when I set goals, created a plan of action to achieve them, and then worked the plan (including revisions when necessary) until I had achieved my objective. Funny, I knew what I was doing, but had never come to a full realization of how this concept has survived the test of time.
The 4 things I would like for you to take from this blog post are:
1.) Determine what you desire, set achievable goals, create a plan, don’t be afraid to revise the plan when something isn’t working out, and keep working the plan until you achieve your objective (Don’t wimp out on me, reach for something greater than you dare dream come true!)
2.) Always look for connections that help validate ideas you may have heard & understood but to which you have never taken ownership.
3.) Keep reading & seeking out inspirational, motivational, and confrontational material. It will help keep you going in the tough times, and it will open your eyes to ideas & concepts you may have never considered.
4.) If you need assistance or advice on how to implement these ideas, I would be happy to discuss them with you one on one.
To quote a poster I have found great inspiration from, “There is in this world no greater force than the force of a man determined to rise.”
How determined are you?
