Columbia’s Spicewine Ironworks won the Best BBQ Sauce in the World title at this year’s American Royal World Championship. The BBQ Contest was held last weekend in Kansas City.
Owner Jay Curry’s Blue Collar BBQ Sauce beat over 100 competing sauces to take home the top prize. Spicewine Ironworks is located on Business Loop 70. The company makes smokers for restaurants and homes and has a line of spices, sauces and wood chips used for smoking meat.
Spicewine Ironworks also had a black and gold mustard-based sauce win fifth place in the competition. For a sauce to win, it has to a commercially made sauce. There is a BBQ Sauce competition and a BBQ competition at the American Royal. Spicewine Ironworks has competed in BBQ sauce competition for three years and the BBQ competition for eight years.
