Twitter Worm on the Loose… Again.

An old worm is on the loose again.  It comes in the form of Twitter direct messages and potentially infects your Windows machine with the Koobface virus. This time many people are reporting the messages say “haha check out this vid” however I got one yesterday evening saying “is this you in this video?” which is similar to what the worm said it’s last round through the Twitters.  The wikipedia link has some other phrases used.

The virus is pretty harmful, it alters DNS settings to prevent access to certain websites (mostly search engines) and can open your machine up to general abuse and flogging. If you clicked the link you should change your twitter password immediately and delete any most in your account related to the virus. You should then run a virus check on your computer.

This “malware” is also spreading on Facebook. The “hook” is that people are so excited to see themselves in a video, they go ahead and install the “needed software” (which is actually letting the malware install itself). This is a case of a security flaw being between the keyboard and the chair :-)
