After I wrote a brief article for the CBT on Petscreen and sent the issue off to press, the incoming commercial director sent me an e-mail with some background information.
PetScreen Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of an animal health care company based in Britain, and the company will move into the MU Life Science Business Incubator in December. The other big news is that the company has decided to make Columbia the entire company’s R&D headquarters rather than BioCity in Nottingham. PetScreen focuses on developing detection and treatment tools for the major diseases related to aging in dogs and cats, such as cancer and renal disease.
Tariq Shah wrote that he will be arriving in Columbia in mid-December. He’s a British citizen, and is wife is a U.S. citizen from New England.
Here’s what Shah wrote: “Columbia was a logical decision for us, being a progressive town with obvious ties to the University, specifically the vet school. We have had a good relationship with the oncologists at the University, and they have been instrumental in introducing PetScreen to Columbia (we will always be grateful to Professor Carolyn Henry for this introduction) and our decision to locate our laboratory here. We have already worked closely with the College of Veterinary Medicine and are looking forward to growing the collaboration now that we are located in Columbia.
“The town is also part of the animal health corridor, where a third of the worlds animal health companies are situated. Finally, the business support organizations within Columbia and their proactive outward investment programs have provided both incentives and support for our move.”
