During the week of Christmas I noticed a small leak around where the water main comes into our basement. This elicited all types of worry because about 3 years ago, the water main disconnected at this very spot and shot water across our storage room for nearly an hour before we were able to get the water turned off. I suspected it was more to do with the fairly significant amount of rain we were experiencing, so I decided to Google it.
As I thought, it was quickly confirmed that nearly 60% of basements leak and this was a typical occurrence. Lucky for us the leakage was minor and easily contained until we could get it fixed. Out of frustration, I posted something on Facebook asking my friends if anyone had dealt with this type of problem.
The next day I received a call and a response from a Facebook friend who just so happens to do this type of repair work. We had never met in person, but connected because of a mutual interest. Ever the fan of people who take the initiative, I quickly arranged for him to inspect it and then hired him to fix it.
I am referring to Mike McMillen of Cracks Sealed. If you have need for this type of service, I highly recommend him. You can check out his website & contact him by clicking here.
Not only did I get my basement leak fixed quickly, at a very affordable price, and learned that Mike and I had more in common than we previously knew, I also discovered that social media is an effective tool, especially if you are proactive in utilizing it. Taking the initiative is still one of the best ways to earn business!
