I just read a story about a man who went to Joplin to help his brother who lived there. The magnitude of this tragedy hit home when he kept referring to the afflicted area as “the kill zone.” Anything in that area is utterly destroyed and volunteers aren’t needed because there is nothing to salvage. My heart is broken for all of the people affected by this event and my prayers are with them.
I wanted to bring to your attention another incredible act of caring by a local restaurant and one of my clients. Bleu Restaurant & Wine Bar is donating all proceeds from their business this Friday, May 27. Please see the following for details.
Tags: bleu, Joplin, relief, tornadoThis Friday from 11:00am-10:00pm at bleu, absolutely all proceeds will go to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief effort of our fellow Missourians. With the weather we have just experienced in Columbia today and our neighbors in Sedalia have also been impacted, we are reaching out to you to come and offer support for this effort.
The day is called “Comfort For Joplin” and we will be featuring a special menu all day with local comfort foods. Everything from Chicken & Dumplings to Chicken Fried Steak, all with a little twist from bleu. Our staff have decided again (just as they did for the relief effort to Haiti) to donate their time all day. All staff members on Friday will donate their time to assist in helping with the effort so we will be able to donate even more money to the cause. Also, all tips/gratuities will be donated as well. We have a big glass Vase that will be on the Bar and we want to fill it up.
I am sure some one you know has been impacted by this week’s horrific storms. Please, if you can, join us at bleu, if you can not please send money to the Red Cross of Columbia or any other reputable civic organization or a local church effort that will ensure the money is directed to help restore the lives to a sense of normalcy.
Please forward this email to whomever you think would be willing to come down and enjoy some “Comfort Food” We will be pricing these items to raise some significant money, so come prepared to help. We have asked for sponsorships from all our vendors who would be willing to donate any items they can as well.

Unfortunately, I stumbled upon this post late. Can’t do anything about it for it’s too late.
The cause of the event is brilliant. Keep up the good work and hopefully it went well.
No worries, Tom. The good people of Joplin will need assistance for a long time to come. There are numerous other ways to contribute and I would encourage everyone to find a way to help.
There is a benefit concert on Saturday night, June 11 to help victims in Joplin. Doors open at 6pm. $5 minimum donation. Should be a great event!
It should be! Unfortunately, I’m not in the U.S. The cause is very good. I do admire your posting for charity!
Thanks, Tom, but truly I don’t deserve the admiration. Those folks like Brent Beshore, Tim Miles, David Rowe, Travis Tucker & Tina Patel (and the entire staff of Bleu Restaurant & Wine Bar), and countless others who made real sacrifices are the ones to admire. Additionally, the University of Missouri, especially the athletic department, has made an incredible effort to support Joplin.
Thank you for reading my blog. It’s pretty cool that someone from outside the U.S. read it!
